Poem (8)

Who the hell do you think you are? What makes you so great?

You arrived unbidden, no warning and taught me to hate

You taught me to cry and trust no-one; not even myself

To put all my feelings in a tight sealed box high up on a shelf

To fear every day and the torrent of pain that I know will come

To keep words to myself, not speak, stay alone lest I come undone

You taught me to be lonely with no desire to change that state

To think over and over of words not said, knowing it’s too late

Who the hell do you think you are? What makes you so great?

You taught me life is so short and can be taken without warning

You gave me a choice; to move forward in peace or stay there just yawning

Waiting for time to pass, in emotional stasis with everything lost

Or make the man I loved proud of me whatever the cost

So, death what did you teach me while I cried at moon?

That one day you’ll take me and that day could be soon.
