These are some of the quotes that I have found comforting or thought provoking:
“This too will pass” :
I first heard this quote when listening to Ajahn Brahm, a Buddhist monk who passes on teachings in a light-hearted, often funny but very inspiring way. Basically this means that, whatever you are going through, however bad it is, it wont last forever.
“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery but today is a gift, that’s why is called the present”
This quote is from the cartoon Kung Fu Panda but is straight from Buddhist philosophy; we cannot change the past, we cannot see the future so we should just live in the present and enjoy every day as it comes.
“Sometimes we have to let go of something that once meant the world to us, not because we want to but because we have to”
I quite enjoy rummaging around on Twitter as, amongst all the brow beating and bitching, you can often find real inspiration. However much you want to hold onto the past you can’t if you want to have a future.
“The worst thing that can happen has happened, nothing will ever be this bad again”
My brother said this to me shortly after my husband died and it has stuck with me; I realised that, if I was strong enough to get through that, I was strong enough to get through anything.
“You, me or nobody is going to hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving”
This quote is from Rocky IV. I haven’t seen the film but I found the speech and it gave me courage to get up and keep going.
“The bravest thing I ever did was continuing my life when I wanted to die”
This quote is from Juliette Lewis and it speaks for itself.
If you’ve come across a quote or someone has said something to you that has inspired you or changed your life in some way please share it; if it helped you it could help someone else
